籃網隊今年戰績不見起色，加上「豪小子」林書豪（Jeremy Lin）二次受傷歸期未定，目前傳出籃網已經決定放棄本季成績，目標交易長人洛培茲（Brook Lopez），以換取下季首輪選秀權。
由於前總裁金恩（Billy King）當初做出錯誤決定，把籃網直到2018年的選秀權都交易出去，因此球隊根本無法選到優秀新人重建。目前只拿到8勝、擔任全聯盟「爐主」的籃網只剩最後一條路；ESPN記者史坦（Marc Stein）爆料指出，籃網已把洛培茲搬上交易桌面，希望極力爭取換到2個首輪選秀權。
洛培茲本季繳出19.9分、5.2籃板和2.6助攻以及1.7阻攻的數據，表現相當全方位。今年三分外線更是大幅進步，寫下生涯新高的3成61中率。季初洛培茲就一直是外界猜測籃網交易的名單之一，雖然當時總教練亞特金森（Kenny Atkinson）曾極力否認，但如今戰績低迷的情況下，交易第一球星洛培茲的傳聞再起。
